This study aims to determine the statistical differences between measurements of air temperature using the automatic instrument (Automatic Weather Station/AWS) and air temperature measurements using the manual instrument. The data that is used in this study are three-hourly data collected from February to June 2016 in 12 (twelve) synoptic stations of the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), which are Bengkulu, Dabo Singkep, Gunung Sitoli, Lhokseumawe, Meulaboh, Ranai, Rengat, Sibolga, Tanjung Pandan, Tarakan, Tarempa, and Tegal. Normality tests performed using the Anderson-Darling and Shapiro-Wilk methods conclude that AWS data and synoptic data from all stations are not normally distributed with a significance level of α = 0.05. Meanwhile, homogeneity test using the Levene's test concludes that both types of data in Bengkulu, Dabo Singkep, Gunung Sitoli, Lhokseumawe, and Rengat are homogeneous in their variance at the significance level α = 0.05, while in Meulaboh, Ranai, Sibolga, Tanjung Pandan, Tarakan, Tarempa, and Tegal the two types of data are not homogeneous in their variance with a significance level of α = 0.05. The test of statistical significance, which is performed using the non-parametric Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test, concludes that there is no significant difference (with a significance level of α = 0.05) between the AWS data and synoptic data for all stations, except for Lhokseumawe and Ranai stations.
